I chose to give this a shot because, A) it's completely whole food and goes right to the cells for NATURAL detoxification and regeneration and B) it's a lot less expensive than over the counter supplements.....which although all natural, still need to be broken down and absorbed. Anyone with a challenged digestive system is not going to absorb supplements in the same manner as food....especially when it comes in this form.
Now generally I'm not a huge fan of juices......which is why I don't actually juice them. Anytime you separate parts from its whole, you no longer have a whole food. I'm a big fan of blending so that you can keep the fiber and all nutrients intact....so technically this is not a juice but just a green drink.....semantics.
Green drinks are alkalizing, cleansing, hydrating, and again, an optimal way to consume foods should you have digestive health issues. I chose this blend because it's packed with alkalizing nutrients that feed the blood, cleanse the GI tract, help to flush any bacteria from the urinary tract, nourish the skin, and feed the body on a cellular level. This drink is comprised of some very simple ingredients and literally takes just minutes to put together....so without further ado:
- 20-30 ounces of filtered water (depending on how much you actually want to drink)
- 2-3 stalks of celery
- 1 Persian cucumber/ or 1/3 English Cucumber
- Juice of a lemon (not the pulp)
- Handful of Italian Parsley Leaves
- 1/2 inch of fresh ginger chopped (optional)
- pinch of pink Himalayan sea salt
Add all ingredients to your blender/Vitamix/Blendtec/Ninja and blend on high for 90 seconds until all ingredients are dissolved.
I personally like to sip on this between meals throughout the day. It's a great way to start off your morning if you're not much of a breakfast person or also if you're on a cleanse.
Parsley and celery, aside from other multiple health benefits, are detoxifying in that they help to excrete uric acid and cleanse the urinary tract. So if water retention or bloating are an issue for you, these guys are your friend.
Cucumber is extremely hydrating. This is ideal for you endurance athletes or for those of you who no matter how much water you drink, cannot seem to stay hydrated.
Lemon is extremely alkalizing to the blood and entire lymphatic system. Lemon helps to stimulate natural peristalsis to increase regularity.
Sea salt helps to keep the cells hydrated. Sodium is an important mineral to consume. Going too low in sodium can affect your blood pressure. Sodium is critical for proper contraction of your heart and it helps to properly produce and distribute thyroid hormones. So although you don't want to go overboard, a little pinch here in there has numerous benefits.
Ginger makes for a happy gut. If bloating or gas are an issue for you, ginger can help ease the burden of an upset system. Plus, it adds a little bit of zest to the drink as well, which I personally love.
Like all things in life and especially nutrition, diet, and fitness.....the accumulation over time really is what shows the results. I personally noticed and feel a difference after just one week. It may take longer for you. So consistency is the key. If you can commit to 2 weeks of any one health protocol, it will soon become a habit. For me, nothing is too inconvenient if it means feeling my best.
To Your Health!!
