You don’t feel well. You have been feverishly looking for a cure. For a solution. For anyone who will take you by the hand and lead you to the land of the living. You haven’t been living because you’re too busy trying to live. Too busy trying to undo the damage. And just too busy being busy. My mind races too. My mind races all day long with thoughts, ideas, obsessions, and research on how to feel better, look better, and just be better.
We scour the internet and read the reviews on Amazon, Vitacost, and even Yelp for a person, a place, a thing that will help us. And we fail to realize that it’s not as complicated as we make it. Well, it is. But we are looking in all the wrong places for that “betterment.” We are preyed upon by the fitness industry and health gurus all over the place trying to recruit us into their way of eating. I can’t tell you how many videos I have watched on YouTube. If you sit there long enough you will start to become hypnotized by the theories out there regarding health. The supplements you MUST take to become ‘adapted.’ The types of workouts you must do in order to burn fat and become a lean and mean fat burning machine. And then of course, you must pay your membership dues both monetarily and physically. You need to join in to get advice that from nature should come free. Physically? You’re so convinced that it’s YOU that’s doing something wrong—not possibly the practice itself that is harming you. So you dig deep, plow through, push on, and ultimately are left at the side of the road because you simply couldn’t keep up with those who are leading the way.
Have you considered for a moment that you can’t keep up simply because you can’t keep up? Have you considered for a tiny second that your body is not as robust as it used to be because you dug, plowed, and pushed for so long that even the thought of exercise or even going to work is exhausting you? You’re stressed. You’re anxious. You’re freaking burnt out and YOU STILL WANT TO CONTINUE ON!!! Tell me what part of that even makes sense? Oh I see, it’s having perfect abs and an ass you can bounce a quarter off of. Yes!! That’s the goal in life. A perfectly sculpted body......with a side of adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, digestive dysfunction, and a host of autoimmune conditions that are driving you nuts. But you push on because that’s what we do these days.
These days suck when it comes to health. Hellllllooooooo!!!!! Have you looked around? Do you see the obesity epidemic. Do you see the lines that are out the door not only at Starbucks and the chain of fast food restaurants—but your doctor’s office as well. I tell you— my endocrinologist is the busiest man I know...and probably the richest. But I digress. We need our doctors. I definitely do. I do because of all the digging, plowing, and pushing I have done all the years. I do because my body is exhausted, fatigued, and malnourished.
On the outside I look like the picture of health. Why? Because I’m thin. But I’m not thin because I am robust and healthy. I’m thin because of said digging, plowing, and pushing. I am thin because the stress that has accumulated in my life from working in an industry that was toxic to my mindset about health, indulging in years of a practice that pulled the reserves from my body from cleansing and detoxing, from running mile upon mile in a depleted dietary state, and from not recognizing that I was not well. That I was not nourished. And that I was simply not happy. I choose happy. I’ll even hashtag that: #choosehappy
Listen to me. Before you go off and buy a supplement, purge your body with hydrotherapy and coffee enemas. Before you go and partake in an extreme physical activity to lose weight and be more ‘fit,’——before you do anything new....stop doing the old. JUST STOP!! Give up the gig. You will not get well trying to add something new if the weak link that you’ve been clinging to is still part of the structure. You will collapse. You will fail. It happens every time. I have done it for years. I have failed time and again. It’s a pattern we live in most areas of our lives. As Geneen Roth says, “how you do anything is how you do everything.” I ran my business the same way I ran my diet the same way I ran my relationships and the same way I have lived my life my entire life.
You, I, we need to get to a place where we are good with letting it go. There is nothing wrong with wanting a sculpted and fit body. But what’s the point if it breaks you down and has you in a doctor’s office who can’t help you because your issue is so much more than the symptoms you came in for. You have to start living differently. You have to start thinking differently. You have to be different. Otherwise, you get more of the same.
Before you do anything—just stop!! Be honest with yourself where you are at. What is it that you want? It cannot be about your abs. It’s got to be about health first. It cannot be about the perfect body. It doesn’t exist. Trust me on that one....it does not exist.
Get good with yourself first. Yes, there are protocols that can help you. But first, before you start something new, you’ve got to shed the old. In my experience, it’s rarely what you’re not doing but rather what you are doing. It’s rarely about what you’re not eating but rather what you are eating. It’s rarely about the vacation that you’re not taking but rather the stress that you have to go back home to after the vacation. And it’s rarely about anything else outside of you.
The biggest mistakes we make when it comes down to our health is right in front of us. Start there. You’ll see that you won’t have to dig so deep, plow so often, and push so far to achieve that which you are seeking.
Try it and see for yourself!!
